Attendance/Absence

Attendance Expectations

Regular school attendance is fundamental to ensuring your child can fully benefit from everything school has to offer, including their learning, wellbeing and overall development. We understand that for some children, attending school every day can be more challenging than for others. At Dr Triplett’s, we are committed to working closely with families to overcome any barriers and support strong attendance.

As parents and carers, please be aware that the government expects children to attend school for at least 96% of the academic year.

If your child is unable to attend school, please ensure that you:

  • Notify the school by 8.30am on the day of absence
  • Arrange appointments outside of school hours wherever possible, and provide evidence of any appointments
  • Understand that requests for exceptional leave must meet specific criteria and be supported with evidence
  • Be aware that holidays or time to travel abroad during term time will not be authorised and may result in a fine, in line with government guidance. If time off for travel or a holiday is taken more than once it is also possible that the local authority can proceed with court action.

Under NHS guidelines children can still attend school with minor ailments such as a cough, cold, runny nose, sore throat or headache. If you are not sure if your child should attend school, please call and speak with a member of the office team.

If your child is finding it difficult to attend school for any reason, please contact Mrs Snowling, our school Attendance Officer. We can offer a range of support to help.
